Objects in your path are detected by ultrasonic sensors and communicated via gentle vibrations. As obstacles become closer the frequency of the vibration increases. The device is intended as a secondary mobility device to complement traditional long cane use or a guide dog. I have heard of several devices similar to this in the past, the KSonar and the Ultracane to name a few, though I have never owned a device like this. I have however, tried a couple, and I think this has two potentially big advantages over the competition. The first is ease of use. The iGlasses, as its name implies, is mounted on a pair of glasses, leaving both hands free for the use of a cane, dog, or other aids. Other devices either attach directly to a cane or are held in the other hand, making them more awkward. The other area is price. I had my share of issues with overhanging objects, whether tree branches, signs, etc and have been reluctant to try anything else due to the reason that they tie up your other hand and are expensive.
